These are the blocks that I've received so far in a birthday block exchange. As yet I haven't decided on the sashing, pink I think. They are all 12" blocks, the majority have come from the US, with some from Canada and Australia. The photo doesn't do them justice, hopefully there will be a better picture some time in the future.
This is one of the blocks I've made from a large scale print that I didn't really know what to do with. I have a white/grey fabric to set the fish stars into and a purple fabric for the border. You can get an idea of what they will look like together from the photo below. The strip of print at the bottom is the fabric that all the blocks were cut from.
This is the layout of blocks I hope to use. I had originally intended to go for rows of 8 and 7 blocks but I was one block short of what I needed.
I won a set of these blocks in September 1996. The quilt's basted, "all" I have to do now is to quilt it. I was stuck for a long while not knowing what to do about the variation in sizes between the blocks but in the end I added three rounds of a contrast colour for a log cabin effectClick here to go back to the home page
