Things to listen to

With my trusty little Alinco DJ-X3 wideband scanner, what can I hear?

Good question! I'm new to this hobby, but I can share a few things I've found.

frequency mode what's there
123.275 AM Netherthorpe Airfield, Thorpe Salvin
129.100 AM West Drayton London ATC
126.300 AM Scottish control (you can hear the high-level stuff overhead)

I'm hoping to get a slighty better internal antenna shortly which should enable me to pull in some of the more distant signals.

For more ideas, take a look at the UK Scanning Directory.

My wife is convinced I'm on a slippery slope to anorak-dom.

We'll see!

Having said all that, I like the Alinco! I don't know how it stacks up against some of the other kit available, but it suits me at the moment. It's small, light, has a good belt / pocket clip and runs for a reasonable length of time on Ni-MH rechargeables.

If you're in the market for one, I paid £109 in August 2003 at Lowes (Waters and Stanton) at Matlock. I'd been considering an eBay purchase, but they were going for nearly the new price.
